How much do I feed my Pembroke Welsh Corgi puppy?
Q. There's a little bundle of energy on his way to me house right now...I'm talking about an 8 week old Pembroke Welsh Corgi pup. Now, I've bought the books and am in the process of reading them; but for right now, a quick answer should do just fine. How much dry puppy food should I be feeding this guy? And how often?
Asked by fuz30 - Wed Dec 26 13:52:01 2007 - - 7 Answers - 0 Comments
A. It depends on the brand and the metabolism of your dog. Really good nutrient dense brands like Canidae, Innova, Merrick, Chicken Soup, A Taste of the Wild, Wellness CORE, Solid Gold Barking at the Moon, etc you'll have to feed hardly any. Foods with a bunch of filler like Purina, Pedigree, Science Diet, IAMS, etc you'll have to feed twice as much if not more. Often the amount it tells you on the bag is way too much. Just make sure that you keep your pup thin so it doesn't stress their growing joints and back. When they are 8 weeks old, feed 3-4 small meals a day, 4 months=2-3 meals, 6 months and up=1-2 meals.

Why is my new Corgi puppy twitching in his sleep?
Q. I just got a brand new Corgi puppy today, and he's been sleeping a lot. Sometimes in his sleep, he'll twitch his paw or sometimes even his whole body. I had a dog who died of epilepsy, and twitching makes me very worried. Should I be concerned?

A. Little twitches in his sleep are normal, my dog will twitch in his sleep sometimes. Unless the pup starts to violently convulse or choke, you shouldn't worry.

Does anyone know of any possible locations/places to a adopt a corgi puppy in New Jersey?
Q. My husband and I are looking to adopt a corgi puppy and we didn't really know where to start looking. Does anyone have any good resources? Thanks!

A. Try pet finder. I found both my corgi mixes through listings on the website. While it's true that young pure-breads are more difficult to locate it's far from impossible. If you are willing to wait a few months (probably less), a couple are bound to show up on the website. Give it time and you'll undoubtedly find the perfect dog to adopt. ...And yes you can adopt a dog. Heck you can adopt a highway. Adopting is simply choosing something to take as your own.

Does anyone know where to get a corgi puppy and for how much??
Q. I am looking for a corgi puppy and I don't know where to find one I have looked in the paper and online but can't find the right place to find them.
Asked by Kally - Thu Mar 8 18:11:26 2007 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments
A. The paper is one of the worst places to find a 'purebred' dog. They are generally poorly bred by backyard breeders interested in taking your money. The only place worse is a pet shop. BOth should be avoided at all costs. You want to use a good breeder. Typically, a good breeder is breeding to create the 'perfect' dog. In any given litter, there will be some show potential puppies and some pet quality puppies. The pet quality puppies are typically in great health and less expensive than nefarious sources. The breeder would have done all the appropriate genetic testing, kept up on ALL vet visits and requirements, socialized the dogs as family members, will question potential buyers thoroughly, and will have an extensive contract. … [cont.]

I just got a Corgi puppy, and noticed his breathing/panting is very rapid, even at rest. Is this normal?
Q. I got a new Corgi puppy, about 3 months old. And his breathing/panting is very rapid. My husband thinks he's either too full, or excited about his first day. Is the rapid panting normal, or should I get him to the vet. Tomorrow is Sunday, no vet is open here, what can I do to help the little guy.

A. It may be just how he breathes, he may be nervous as you just brought him home. Just show him lots of love, and make sure he has easy access to plenty of water. And congrats on being new pet parents!!

What kind of dog food should I get for a corgi puppy?
Q. I already have an adult dog and I know corgi's tend to have weight issues, do you have anything in mind that they may both be able to eat?

Fromm Dog Food is Great for dogs and cats $42- $45 per 30 lb bag NO fillers .some good quality grains .NO corn .gluten or by-products or wheat ALL human grade food .fruits veggies and probiotics!! check it out you wont regret it ! has a high protein content (not recommeded for non athletic dogs) Taste of the Wild contains Ethoxyquin which is a toxic fish preservative. (TOTW says that the cooking process kills all of it but it scared me away from their product) around $42 for a 30 lb bag ... its the cheapest 6 star food .. lots of great dog food choices on this site !! Orijen and Welness are great but it is $60 - $80 for a 30… [cont.]

Corgi puppy won't go on walks, but it just started today. What can I do?
Q. Puppy is 12 weeks old, and for the past few days, he's been great, even enthusiastic, about walks, but today he's been really stubborn. Have any advice?
Asked by MainelyAs11 - Wed Nov 14 21:37:58 2007 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments
A. My puppy is doing the same thing. He was really good with walking, and then suddenly this week he's been acting up. He's probably going through a bratty stage like my dog. I found it much easier to motivate him with a group. Usually, I would walk him by myself, but since he's being a brat, I've had my sister and mother walk with me. He walks better with a pack. I also have started bringing along his favorite toy to motivate him. Good luck with your dog, they can be really cute, but it's always a work in progress.

A. Puppies chewing is totally natural. They are just like teething babies. Bitter lemon spray can be great but doesn t work for all dogs some actually like the taste! Try For quick and easy alternatives. . The best thing to do to stop nipping and mouthing is to let out a puppy like yelp, this immediately makes the puppy back away as it is what her litter mates would do. Its a way to let her know that hurts. She won't understand all the no's and putting her in another room etc. When she nips, you yelp then turn your back on her (get visitors to do the same) she will soon get the message of 'ouch that hurts and i am not playing because of it' I have just written a new article about this very subject and its really quick and easy … [cont.]

Why is my Corgi Puppy Crazy at Night, and how can I Stop Her!?
Q. I need help from an expert. My corgi is about 3 months old, and she is fine during the day but at night she is crazy. She tries to bite me, bite everything, and is just plain old crazy. Can anyone tell me what to do to stop this behavior? I think I am going to start walking her at night...I walk her during the day but a night walk sounds good.
Asked by Voicekiller - Mon Mar 3 23:12:09 2008 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Take her for a walk in the evenings when she gets like this, it will help to burn some of the energy off before she goes to sleep for the night. DO NOT accept any biting behaviour, ever. My puppy was doing the same thing, taking him for a 20 minute walk seems to do the trick.

Is a Welsh Corgi a good puppy for my 7 year old son?
Q. My son is turning 7 next month and my wife and I promised to get him a puppy for his birthday, so we took him to a local dog shelter and immediately he fell in love with a 5 month year old welsh corgi. What are the pros and cons of having one? Also my wife and I are expecting another child, would a corgi be a good choice with a new baby around?
Asked by Austin - Wed Jun 3 16:17:46 2009 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Corgis are fun little dogs, we have a few in my neighborhood and we also have dozens of small children in the same neighborhood. The corgis do just fine and will play with the kids no problem. I attribute this to the children respecting the dogs as well as the dogs receiving obedience training. Be very consistent about training the dog that comes into your home, regardless of the breed. As a herding breed, Corgis are known to be a bit nippy at the heels, but like I said, obedience training can work wonders. Since this dog is supposed to be your son's dog, you should encourage him to participate in training the dog (always with your supervision!). I don't really recommend allowing a child to have his "own" dog until he or she is around 12… [cont.]

I have a corgi puppy thats only 3 weeks old, I need something safe to treat fleas on both the puppy and mother
Q. My corgi just had her litter of 1 nearly 3 weeks ago. We discovered the monther had fleas during the pregnancy period but we didn't use any treatments because I was under the impression that its unsafe to use any flea products on very young puppies or monther dogs so close to welping. Perhaps it would have been ok to do it then but its too late to go back now, so the point on that would be mute anyhow. What can I do to SAFELY get rid of them for both the mother and pup?

A. I would consult your vet. Because the puppy is so young, you can't use most products (ex. advantage frontline). Your vet is the only one who can give you a good product that won't hurt the mom or the puppy! Good Luck! ~Froggie

A. go to petfinder.com...this is a site for rescue groups...just enter your Zip code, and enter breed wanted, and be AMAZED at how many great choices you have !!...i recently adopted a Great Pyrenees mix from them, and my dog Sylvester is awesome !!...check it out...try it...do a good deed...adopt a cute Corgi puppy today !!!...good luck to you, in your search for a cute Corgi puppy as a new pet !!!...most adoptions run between $ 50 to $ 200 maximum, for a wonderfull dog, who will be very happy to be your new pet !!!

what to name my corgi puppy?
Q. I'm picking up my little corgi puppy on Tuesday. She's 10 weeks today. The breeder says she's a little chunkster and I'm super excited. My fiance and I planned on getting a little boy but changed our minds to a girl. Problem is, we picked a name for the boy and we're not sure if it's appropriate for the girl. What do you think of the name Tank? It was supposed to be ironic because as everyone knows, corgis are short and not that big. Would Tank fit for a girl?

A. I have a boy (ACD) named Tank but I think it would work for a girl too. Good Luck, I love Corgis!
