The term Bandog (also known as Bandogge) originated around 1250-1300 in Middle England, referring to a mastiff type dog that was bound by a chain during the daytime and was released at night to guard against intruders. In 1570 Johannes Caius published a book in Latin which in 1576 was translated into English by Abraham Fleming under the name Of Englishe Dogges, in which he described Bandog as a vast, stubborn, eager dog of heavy body. I have two questions about dogs that i need answered: 1- The Bandog Mastiff has ___ "groups" of foundation breeding dogs, one of them being used in only some programs. 2-If the ___ shows aggression/ferocity in the show ring it is considered part of the breed standard and is accepted. The judge may not touch the dog to examine it and there are no points taken away from the dog for showing aggression toward the judge. The dog must ALWAYS be under the control of his handler for obvious reasons!! ADD: Sarah S, look up the Fila FCI standard on showing the breed, it implicitly states what I mentioned above!
